DiKSO Edit 11 - Marc Poppcke - You'll Never Change A Diva

He is back, Marc Poppcke is back... A good friend, fellow DJ and definitely the midwife for this blog and stuff. It's number eleven and a little bit different, a ham of an edit. Uptempo, driving and catchy and a mash up as well.

Based on the 1981 #1 US Dance Charts smasher "Change - Paradise", Marc added a completly different vocal from Adeva's 1988 debut single "In And Out Of My Life" and some effects for full dancefloor pleasure.

Marc Poppcke is very busy these days. He started the promising "Soulfooled" label together with Berlin based Alex Niggemann and the Superlounge guys from Düsseldorf, is finishing his master degree at the Berlin University Of Arts and he always works on new productions and remixes. Have a look on his soundcloud page and listen to his brilliant remix for C-Rock and Brett Johnson. We are very happy about this wonderful edit that Marc has tested already in different clubs over the last months. Chicks dig it...!

DiKSO Edit 09 - Andi de Luxe - Stealo

Before I leave the blogosphere for a promising Melt! festival weekend, I would like to present you DiKSO Edit 09.

I am not really into that black music r'n'b thang. I am not a sucker for neither any bling-bling nor any big tits on pimped cars. But every now and then there is a song I go wild for. 702's "Steelo" from the mid-nineties is such a song. Some lovely chords, a bassline sampled from Police's "Voices Inside My head" and Missy Elliott on the mic - what a sensation!

To make a long story short, listen to my update with less Missy and some more sound of the police...

DiKSO Edit 08 - NoRequests - She Wants Everything

Uh huh huh... Oh...oh... Uh huh huh... Doo doo doo... La la la la...

Ad libs, this edit is all about the ad libs. Forget the rest of the lyrics, they weren't true anyway. Even if he tells us about drifting apart from a woman: Dear George, we all know by now there weren't any girls. And if so, you know why it didn't work for you. Okay, in 84 I wouldn't have come out of the closet, too. You're excused ;-)

But let us talk about music instead of trivial tittle-tattle. Do you remember your first Wham!? George & Andrew used to be those slick poster boys, whose music was always there but came second. It took me years to realize how awesome their music is. A few weeks ago for example, I recovered "Young Guns", an early Wham! single from 1982, played by the Horse Meat Disco guys on their regular night here in Berlin. Wow, In fact Wham! were one of the first commercial rap acts. Another example is "Everything She Wants" that had to be remixed by Todd Terry in 1997 to attract my attention. In fact it was one of those assembly-line-like remix productions that definitely failed the original. Not so in this case, we are really proud to present this wonderful work by mister Matthew McDonald aka NoRequests from NYC, a rework that elaborates the important parts and chanced the original pop sound into a relaxed groover that fits in a sleazy disco peak time as well as a warm up house set.

She Wants Everything by NoRequests

Argh, sorry, I have to come back to the message of this song once again. If you listen carefully you will recognize that NoRequests left only a few of the original lyrics. George's original lyrics were full of questions about "him vs. her", Matthew just kept the definite answer to all these problems:

Uh huh huh... Oh...oh... Uh huh huh... Doo doo doo... La la la la...

Word Matthew, wise man, you are!

DiKSO Edit 07 - Andi de Luxe - Let Me Love You

After Arsenii did a great job for the b-boys, edit number 7 is for the ladies. Expect some soulful vocals over a fluffy groove carpet that will make the girls ask for more...

Pimped up for the dancefloor with some added beats and a few more bpms but still enough soul to please the girls. Originally released in 1982 it was the first and the last release on the New Yorican "Up Right Records" label. The excellent first choice label re-released it in 2009 but it's still so so rare.

DiKSO Edit 06 - Arsenii - Break It Up

After five edits from Germany, mostly Berlin, DiKSO goes international. Let me introduce "Arsenii" from Moscow.

Remember the time when Myspace seemed to be the brand new all in one promotion and communication tool for every musician worldwide? Seems that Soundcloud delivers what myspace promised. Instead of being spammed on every channel Soundcloud invites you to discover more and more interesting and promising talents, brothers in spirit or just some new music when your mp3 collection has got boring.

Arsenii is such a promising discovery. His musical range from ambient electronica and dubby techno scapes to melodic indietronic seems to include funk and disco as well. Editing Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks" shows his sense of style and a refreshing and ironic disrespect to a giant of rap. Here is Arsenii...

DiKSO Edit 05 - Daniel Solar - Got The Funk

Before we present the next podcast, here is the add-on kit to the former one: an exclusive Daniel Solar edit of Positive Force's "We Got The Funk".

Originally released in 1979 on the mighty "Sugar Hill Records" label that brought us "Grandmaster Flash", "West Street Mob" and of course the "Sugarhill Gang", it is a nice and relaxed disco funk mixture that might have influenced a lot of the early hip hop heads in their own work.

Daniel focussed on the groove, reduced the vocals to some of the shoutings and developed the refrain to an inescapable climax. First tests were successful completed, I am sure your homies will dig this...

DiKSO Edit 04 - André Capado - Might Fine

Ladies and gentleman please give him a warm welcome: André Capado. After some minimal and deep house releases on labels like Toyroom he did this wonderful fourth issue in our "DiKSO Edit" series.

This time "Might Fine" is the victim, an album-only track from Peter Jacques Band's second album "Welcome Back". When you think of their previous hyperactive uptempo tracks like "Fly With The Wind" "Might Fine" forms such a contrast with its laidback groove and soulful vocals. André lifted the tempo and cutted the vocals. He trimmed the whole track to fit both, disco and house dancefloors.

If you like this edit feel free to check André's myspace profile. And please check other productions and projects of Peter Jacques Band's mastermind Jacques Fred Petrus like "Change" or "Revanche", he really created some outstanding classics.

DiKSO Edit 03 - Andi de Luxe - Süpersenf

The music you can find here at DiKSO ist mostly what they call slow motion disco. But let us show you a different side. I am sure when "Supersempfft" released their album "Roboterwerke" (Robot Factory) in 1979 nobody was sure to categorize this correctly. Discogs says "Krautrock", somebody from "The Rolling Stone" forum talked about "a parody on disco music", I would describe it as "Excentric Synth-Pop". Give'em a try you will be surprised.

Especially one track kept drawing my attention with its sweet vocoder solo: "Out Of Time". This vocoder vocal is begging for a spotlight and it was a pleasure to get my scissors out. Here is "Süpersenf"...

DiKSO Edit 02 - Andi de Luxe - Juicy Rain

Oran 'Juice' Jones "The Rain"? Yes, this lovely black music pussy charmer from the 80s with that innocent acting rainy atmosphere. And mates, Jones wasn't that innocent, just have a look at the record cover. He should apply for a membership in Al Bundy's "No Ma'am" movement.

"The Rain" is the newest victim for my scissor treatment. It could have been so nice to write that the rainy weather outside inspired me to that edit, but it's bloody cold here in Berlin and we have loads of snow. Oh sorry, off topic. The tempo fits but there are way too much vocals in it. And as an old 80s afficionado I love the synth part in it. What a shame it's so short in the original. But not in my version...

DiKSO Edit 01 - Marc Poppcke - No One Can Stop Me Now

One part of this blog is about new disco-edits. So I think it's time to start with it.
The first one is coming from MC Fadden & Whitehead and their big hit "Ain't no stoppin us now" on Philadelphia Records.
Released from their self-titled debut album in 1979, the song spent a week at number one on the R&B singles chart. It also proved to be a successful crossover hit, peaking at number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100, and reached number 5 in the UK. The single also made it to number ten on the disco charts. The distinctive bass hook was played by Philadelphia International Records house musician Jimmy Williams. The song eventually sold over 2 million copies and went platinum.

I really like this cheesy and melodic disco track. Especially the bassline and the strings are awesome. That's why I decided to do a more up to date dj-friendly instrumental version of it, cutting out the main parts, adding some drum sounds and rearranged it with a lot of filter action ;-)

I hope you like it!
